The future of premium motoring may be shaped in the design studios of Audi, BMW, Jaguar, and Mercedes.

BMW has undergone a significant design shake-up, with Maximilian Missoni of Polestar joining the company as head of design for medium and large model lines, and Alpina. Domagoj Dukec, the former head of BMW design, is leaving to join Rolls-Royce, while Anders Warming, a former brand designer, will move to BMW’s advanced design team. Both Missoni and Frascella are known for their emphasis on volume, proportion, and minimalist detailing, which contrasts with the more chaotic design style of the past. This shift may be a response to criticism of the company’s bold design language, which has not been well-received. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, has yet to announce any changes to its design management. The success of these companies will depend on their design and build quality, as they face challenges such as slow EV adoption and competition from tech-forward Chinese and Korean rivals.

A Jaguar Land Rover employee has fallen victim to a £70,000 tax scam orchestrated by HMRC impersonators, known as ‘Tommy’s Tax’ scheme.

Andrew Bell, a 56-year-old father of five, was accused of committing a £70,000 income tax fraud while working at Jaguar Land Rover. He claimed to have followed a scheme called “Tommy’s Tax” and registered for self-assessment, claiming business expenses he was not eligible for. Bell admitted to fraudulent behavior between October 2020 and May 2023, but was sentenced to 22 months suspended sentence, 20 days of rehabilitation activity, and 150 hours of unpaid work. In court, Bell claimed that many others at JLR were also involved in the scheme, which was allegedly encouraged by a financial advisor. The judge concluded that Bell was not a victim of circumstance, but rather chose to participate in the scheme for personal gain. The judge also noted that even if others were doing it, it didn’t excuse Bell’s actions. The case highlights the importance of personal responsibility and the need for individuals to pay their fair share of taxes.
