Skoda has had a remarkable year, celebrating its 130th anniversary and 117 years of producing electrified vehicles. As part of the celebrations, the company’s designers were given the freedom to reimagine a line of its historic icons as electric vehicles (EVs) using the newly introduced Modern Solid design language. The result is a series of stunning concepts that blend the past with the present.
One of the first concepts to be revealed was the Skoda 100, a modern interpretation of the company’s first car to exceed a million units in sales. The new 100 features four-element headlights, front and rear lightstrips, and an air intake on the roof to cool the rear-mounted motors and battery. The design is a nod to the original’s chrome front end and rear air vent, while the “body behind the back doors” draws on the original’s distinctive C-pillar.
Another iconic model to be reimagined is the Skoda 110 R, a rear-wheel drive sports coupe that earned the nickname “the Porsche 911 of the East.” The new 110 R features 130 RS-inspired fenders, centre-lock aero wheels, and a ribbed hood, while the original’s round headlights have been replaced with Skoda’s “Tech-Loop” lighting signature. The car also features air vents beneath the rear windows to cool the battery, rear motor, and other electrical components.
Other concepts in the series include the Skoda Felicia Fun, a brightly colored pick-up version of the Felicia hatch, which has been revived as an EV with a modern twist. The Skoda MBX 1000 Coupé, which previewed the crossover trend in the 1960s, has been reimagined with cinema-style, fold-away seats and Citroen-inspired air suspension. The Skoda Favorit, a landmark car for the company, has been brought back as a contemporary EV with a minimalist face and ultra-slim LED headlights.
The series also includes more unusual concepts, such as the Skoda Slavia B, a modern interpretation of the company’s first motorcycle, which features a floating seat and a hollow frame derived from the Czech language’s “haček” diacritic. The Skoda Ferat, inspired by a blood-fuelled Skoda 110 Super Sport, is a mysterious and striking EV with a liftable driver/passenger compartment and an all-threatening aura.
Unfortunately, Skoda has confirmed that these vehicles will remain concepts for now, but they provide a fascinating glimpse into the company’s rich history and its vision for the future of electric vehicles. The “Icons Reimagined” series is a testament to Skoda’s commitment to innovation and design, and a celebration of its 130-year heritage.
