The Citroen ë-C5 Aircross has become the third car to qualify for the full ‘Band 1’ electric car grant of £3,750 from the UK government. This grant is based on manufacturing sustainability criteria, and only the new longer-range version of the Aircross will qualify. To be eligible, the car must have a starting price of less than £37,000, and it is expected that the Citroen will offer a 422-mile claimed range for around £33,250.
The qualification of the ë-C5 Aircross for the grant brings the total number of electric models eligible for the Band 1 and Band 2 grants to 38. According to government figures, over 30,000 drivers have already taken advantage of the grant to switch to electric vehicles. The grant is part of the UK government’s efforts to support the transition to electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions.
Greg Taylor, Managing Director of Citroën UK, welcomed the grant and stated that the company aims to make the transition to electrification as accessible as possible. He emphasized that the ë-C5 Aircross Long Range is the first vehicle of its size and type to receive the full grant, demonstrating the team’s hard work in creating practical and affordable electric cars.
The Nissan LEAF is expected to be the next car to qualify for the grant, with prices to be announced in the coming weeks. The grant has been instrumental in encouraging drivers to switch to electric vehicles, and the addition of new models like the ë-C5 Aircross and the Nissan LEAF is likely to further boost the adoption of electric vehicles in the UK. With the government’s support, companies like Citroen are leading the way in making electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for drivers.
