Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, is expecting to sell around 51,000 units on Dhanteras, the highest-ever sales on this auspicious day. The company’s Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee, stated that the auspicious period of Dhanteras is spread over two days, from Saturday to Sunday, and that some customers have postponed their deliveries to Sunday. Last year, the company sold 41,500 units on Dhanteras, which was the highest-ever before this year.
Banerjee attributed the strong sales to the introduction of GST 2.0, which has led to a 50% growth in retail sales compared to the same period last year. The company has received 4.5 lakh bookings since announcing reduced prices, with 1 lakh bookings for small cars. Maruti Suzuki’s showrooms will remain open late into the night to cater to customers, and the production team is working on Sundays to meet the high demand.
Hyundai Motor India is also witnessing strong customer demand, with estimated deliveries of around 14,000 units on Dhanteras, a 20% increase from last year. The company’s Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Tarun Garg, stated that the positive momentum is driven by the festive spirit, a buoyant market environment, and the encouraging impact of GST 2.0 reforms.
The strong sales on Dhanteras are a testament to the growing demand for passenger vehicles in India, particularly during the festive season. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are among the top players in the Indian automotive market, and their sales performance on Dhanteras is a significant indicator of the industry’s overall health. With the festive season still underway, it remains to be seen whether the sales momentum will continue in the coming days.
Overall, the sales performance of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai on Dhanteras is a positive sign for the Indian automotive industry, which has been facing challenges in recent years. The introduction of GST 2.0 and the festive season have created a favorable environment for car buyers, and manufacturers are working to meet the high demand. As the festive season continues, it will be interesting to see how the sales performance of these companies evolves in the coming days.
