The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, a highly capable off-road vehicle, has made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. According to recent reports, this new SUV is expected to launch in India during the 2028 festive season, with production starting in August 2028 at Toyota’s new facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. This facility will focus on sustainable and green technologies, with an annual production capacity of 89,000 units, of which 40,000 will be reserved for export markets.

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will initially go on sale in Japan in mid-2026. In India, the SUV is likely to be offered with multiple powertrain options, including a 2.7L petrol engine, a strong hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. There will be no diesel engine option available. The model showcased at the Japan Mobility Show featured a 2.7L naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, delivering 163PS and 246Nm of torque.

In terms of design, the Toyota FJ Cruiser features a boxy stance with a bold front grille, pronounced bumper, and C-shaped lighting elements. The SUV measures 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,960mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,580mm and ground clearance of 215mm. The interior features a 5-seat layout, 12.5-inch dual screens, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a Toyota Safety Sense suite. The all-black interior theme and multi-layered dashboard add to the SUV’s rugged and premium feel.

The FJ Cruiser is expected to be one of the first models produced at Toyota’s new facility in India, which will focus on sustainable and green technologies. With its impressive off-road capabilities and premium features, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is likely to be a popular choice among Indian buyers. The SUV’s shorter length compared to the Fortuner and Mahindra Scorpio N may also make it a more attractive option for those seeking a more compact off-road vehicle. Overall, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is an exciting new addition to the Indian market, and its launch in 2028 is highly anticipated.
