Jawa Motorcycles in India has experienced a dynamic business journey. Initially successful in the 1960s and 70s under Ideal Jawa and later as Yezdi, the brand became a favorite for its robust two-stroke motorcycles. However, the 1990s liberalization and competition led to its eventual exit in 1996.

Capitalizing on nostalgia, the Jawa brand was revived in 2018 by Classic Legends (Mahindra & Mahindra). Their current portfolio of retro-inspired models like the Jawa 350 and Jawa 42 blends classic aesthetics with modern technology, targeting the premium motorcycle segment and competing with Royal Enfield.

With a manufacturing base in Pithampur and a growing dealership network across nearly 300 cities as of May 2025, Jawa focuses on its heritage through marketing and community engagement. While financial specifics aren’t fully public, the brand has seen a positive initial reception and continues to expand its product line with new models and a focus on evolving regulations. Jawa’s strategy centers on leveraging its iconic past with contemporary offerings to establish a strong position in the competitive Indian market.
