Nick Cassidy achieved a historic victory for Citroen in the Mexico Formula E race, marking the team’s first-ever win in the series. Cassidy, a New Zealander, switched to Citroen over the off-season after finishing runner-up in the previous year’s championship. Starting 13th on the grid, Cassidy conserved energy early on, waiting for the right moment to make his move. That moment came after a safety car period, when he committed to a six-minute Attack Mode, slicing through the field to take the lead.

Cassidy’s strategy paid off, and he found himself at the front of the pack, with Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra in second place, applying pressure with more Attack Mode remaining. However, Cassidy judged his energy perfectly, resisting every challenge and taking the chequered flag just six-tenths of a second clear. The victory was a major moment for both Cassidy and Citroen, with the team making an immediate impact in its first season in Formula E.

The race was a strategic contest, with drivers juggling energy management and Attack Mode deployments. Pascal Wehrlein briefly took the lead, but his Porsche couldn’t sustain the pace, while Taylor Barnard initially seized control before Cassidy’s surge. Oliver Rowland completed the podium, recovering from an earlier setback, and Jake Dennis slipped to fifth after running out of energy on the final lap.

Cassidy’s win follows a third-place finish in the Sao Paulo opener, underlining the impact of his move to Citroen. The French manufacturer has made a strong start to the season, with a podium and a victory from its first two races. Cassidy now leads the drivers’ championship, four points clear of Dennis, with Rowland a further two points back in third. The victory was a dream start for Cassidy and Citroen, and the team is looking forward to building on this momentum in the upcoming races.
