A dramatic and potentially deadly road accident occurred in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar on Thursday night. A speeding Skoda car lost control, jumped a road divider, and crashed into the wall of a Barbeque Nation restaurant on 100 Feet Road. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, which showed the car racing towards the junction at an alarming speed. Instead of slowing down to take a left turn, the vehicle continued straight ahead, mounted the road divider, and briefly went airborne.
The car then clipped a two-wheeler nearby before slamming into the outer wall of the restaurant. A group of diners standing outside the entrance narrowly escaped the speeding car by a matter of seconds. According to police, the car was driven by 42-year-old Derrick Tony, who was traveling from 18th Main Road towards 100 Feet Road. The vehicle was being driven at a speed far beyond what the road conditions and turn permitted, and Tony failed to negotiate the curve.
Police confirmed that Tony was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The impact caused extensive damage to the restaurant’s exterior wall, sending debris across the footpath and road. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. However, the two-wheeler rider, Jabir Ahmed, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. A complaint has been filed, and a case has been registered at the Jeevan Bheema Nagar Traffic Police Station. Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine further liability in the incident.
The accident highlights the dangers of speeding and driving under the influence. The fact that the driver was allegedly drunk and lost control of the vehicle at a high speed is a serious concern. The incident could have had much more severe consequences, and it is fortunate that no one was killed. The police investigation will likely focus on determining the circumstances surrounding the accident and holding the driver accountable for his actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the need for drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
