The city of Prague has introduced its first SOR ENS 12 electric buses into regular passenger service, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The buses, which are equipped with Škoda Electric drivetrains, are part of a larger order of up to 100 vehicles, with the first 18 buses already delivered and allocated to three depots in the city. The initial four buses have begun operating on selected routes, with the remaining buses expected to enter service over the coming weeks.

The introduction of the SOR ENS 12 buses is part of Prague Public Transit Company’s (DPP) bus fleet renewal program, which aims to replace older diesel buses with new, zero-emission vehicles. The new buses are fitted with advanced features, including a heat pump for heating and cooling, a passenger information system, CCTV with recording capability, and a kneeling function to facilitate boarding. The buses also have a guaranteed range of up to 100 km on a single charge and can be charged using a dual-pole pantograph or a plug-in socket.

The rollout of the new buses is being done in phases, with the initial buses operating on routes 213, 154, 159, 185, and 213, with additional routes to be added as more buses enter service. The buses will also be equipped with an energy management system to monitor vehicle range, manage charging processes, and provide fire detection alerts.

The introduction of the SOR ENS 12 buses is a significant step towards reducing Prague’s carbon emissions and meeting the city’s climate goals. The city has set a target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030, and the new buses will play a key role in achieving this goal. The buses are also expected to improve air quality in the city, reducing particulate matter and other pollutants that contribute to poor air quality.

In addition to the SOR ENS 12 buses, DPP has also placed orders for other new buses and trolleybuses, including 30 Bozankaya SNG 12T trolleybuses and 30 articulated Iveco Urbanway Hybrid 18M buses. The new vehicles will be delivered in 2026 and will further reduce the city’s carbon footprint. Overall, the introduction of the SOR ENS 12 buses is an important step towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly public transportation system in Prague.
