PHP Motors has brought the Malaysian brand Perodua to Bangladesh, offering brand-new sedans and SUVs with Toyota’s Dual VVT-i engines at competitive prices. The company’s vice chairman, Mohammad Mohsin, explained that Perodua is a joint venture between Malaysian manufacturers and Toyota, which owns a 20% stake in the company. This partnership allows Perodua to use Toyota’s engines and selected components while sourcing other parts from Malaysia to keep costs low.
The cars are assembled in Malaysia, where the engines are imported from Japan and paired with locally manufactured parts, reducing labor and production costs. Mohsin claims that the cars offer Toyota’s core engine technology at a price similar to reconditioned cars, but brand new. Buyers also get a three-year service warranty, a five-year fitness-free period, and the benefit of an unused engine, which provides better fuel economy over time.
PHP Motors is currently offering four Perodua models in Bangladesh: the Aruz, Myvi, Bezza, and Axia. The Aruz is a seven-seater SUV with a 1496cc petrol engine, while the Myvi is a compact hatchback with a 1500cc Dual VVT-i engine. The Bezza is a cost-conscious sedan with a 1329cc Dual VVT-i engine, and the Axia is an entry-level hatchback with a 1000cc VVT-i engine.
All the models come with a range of safety features, including airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, and hill-hold assist. The cars also have modern amenities such as touch screens, push-start ignition, and dual-tone alloy wheels. The prices of the cars are competitive, with the Aruz and Myvi being offered at prices similar to reconditioned cars.
The introduction of Perodua cars in Bangladesh is expected to fill a gap in the local market, where new cars are often out of reach due to high taxes and expensive sourcing. The company’s offer of brand-new cars with Toyota’s engine technology at competitive prices is likely to attract buyers who are looking for reliable and affordable vehicles. With EMI facilities and a range of color options, the Perodua cars are likely to be popular among first-time buyers and families.
