The rating applies to all variants of the Hilux in Australia, excluding the Hilux Rugged X variant. The Hilux has also received 5-star ratings from Latin NCAP and ASEAN NCAP.
In terms of standard safety features, the Hilux comes equipped with dual front and side airbags, a driver knee airbag, and a centre airbag to provide enhanced protection for front seat occupants. Additionally, it features autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW), and emergency lane keeping (ELK). The Hilux also has an advanced speed assistance system (SAS) that can recognize speed signs.
In the ANCAP testing, the Hilux scored 84% in Adult Occupant Protection, with good or adequate protection for most body parts of both the driver and front passenger in the frontal offset test. The side impact test also showed good protection for all critical body parts of the driver. However, eight points were deducted due to the front structure of the Hilux posing a risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle.
In Child Occupant Protection, the Hilux scored 89%, with good protection for 6-year and 10-year dummies in frontal offset and side impact tests. However, ANCAP noted the unavailability of a top tether anchorage in the rear centre seating position, making it not recommended to install child restraints in this position.
The Hilux also performed well in Vulnerable Road User Protection, scoring 82%, with good or adequate protection for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system showed good protection for vulnerable road users, and the Hilux also passed the cyclist anti-dooring test.
In Safety Assist, the Hilux scored 82%, with good performance in tests for AEB, lane support system, speed assistance system, and intelligent adaptive cruise control.
