The 2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser, also referred to as the “baby Land Cruiser,” has been unveiled at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. This new model marks the revival of the FJ Cruiser nameplate, which was discontinued a couple of years ago after a 17-year production run. The FJ Cruiser is part of Toyota’s plan to expand the Land Cruiser name and legacy to appeal to a wider range of audiences. The company had hinted at a baby Land Cruiser in development, and it has now been revealed as the next FJ Cruiser in its production-spec guise.

The 2026 FJ Cruiser features a rugged and upright design, evolved from Toyota’s Compact Cruiser EV Concept. The vehicle boasts chiseled body panels, chunky and flared rectangular wheel arches, an upright stance, and tough-looking bumpers. There are two fascias available, depending on the trim level, with either round or rectangular headlights. The FJ Cruiser also features a removable bumper, optional cargo panels, and snorkels, allowing for customization.

In terms of specifications, the 2026 FJ Cruiser is based on the same platform as the Land Cruiser 250 but has a 270 mm shorter wheelbase, reducing the turning circle to 5.5 m. The vehicle measures 4,575 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,960 mm tall, with a ground clearance of 215.3 mm and an approach angle of 31-degrees, making it a dependable off-roader.

The interior of the FJ Cruiser features a functional dashboard with multiple layers, a 12.5-inch free-standing infotainment screen, physical buttons for the dual-zone climate control, and a fully digital TFT instrument cluster. The vehicle is powered by a 2.7L 4-cyl petrol engine, producing 161 bhp of peak power and 245 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a 4X4 transfer case for off-roading capabilities.

The launch of the 2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser is scheduled for mid-2026 in Japan, with more markets likely to follow soon after. With its rugged design, off-roading capabilities, and modern features, the FJ Cruiser is set to appeal to a wide range of audiences, from adventure-seekers to those looking for a reliable and versatile vehicle. The revival of the FJ Cruiser nameplate is a significant move by Toyota, and the company is expected to unveil more models under the Land Cruiser nameplate in the future to meet societal demands.
