Skoda has unveiled a teaser video of its upcoming “Vision O” concept car, which is set to debut in Munich next month. The Vision O features a sleek and modern design language, dubbed “modern solid,” which emphasizes clean lines, minimalist cues, and a focus on functionality. The concept car has a production-ready shape, with a liftback-style tailgate and “SKODA”-lettered badging. According to Skoda, the Vision O is designed to “show up” rather than “show off,” suggesting a more understated approach to design.
The Vision O is expected to feature an electric powertrain, with Skoda stating that it will demonstrate “the future of Skoda in the estate model segment.” The design of the Vision O is characterized by a sloping roofline, split rear spoiler, and sleek “T” shaped rear tail-lights. The concept car is expected to be a mid-sized wagon, with a focus on practicality and functionality.
Skoda’s design team drew inspiration from earlier models, such as the Octavia, Roomster, and Yeti, when creating the Vision O. The project manager, Daniel Edr, stated that the design team aimed to create a car that embodies the practical, work-focused values associated with an estate body shape. Exterior designer Jounggeen Kim added that the Vision O’s design was influenced by elements of the Roomster and Yeti, particularly the bumpers and B-pillar.
The Vision O is expected to be priced between $50,000 and $80,000 before on-road costs, positioning it below the Enyaq midsize electric in Skoda’s model hierarchy. The production model is likely to feature similar powertrain options as the Elroq small EV SUV, including a lithium-ion battery with a nominal capacity of around 80kWh, a WLTP range of 500-600km, and rapid charging capabilities. The Vision O range is expected to span at least two models, with options for a performance dual-motor all-wheel drive or long-range single-motor rear driver.
The debut of the Vision O concept car is significant, as it marks Skoda’s entry into the affordable EV station wagon market. Currently, options for affordable EV station wagons are scarce in Australia, with premium options like the Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo or BMW’s i5 Touring commanding high prices. The Vision O is expected to fill this gap, offering a practical and functional EV station wagon at a more affordable price point. Overall, the Vision O concept car is an exciting development for Skoda, and its debut in Munich next month is highly anticipated.
