The Tata Sierra, a legendary SUV from the 1990s, is making a comeback in an all-new avatar. The new model is expected to be launched by the end of the year, with a price range of ₹16 lakh to ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and powertrain. The new Sierra blends modern design touches with cutting-edge technology and power options, making it a significant upgrade from its predecessor.
The original Tata Sierra was known for its bold design, signature curved rear windows, and rugged build. The new version retains some of these features, including the curved glass at the back and strong, muscular wheel arches, but with a sleeker and more premium design. The front of the SUV features slim LED lights, a commanding road presence, and stylish 19-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the new Sierra is tech-loaded, with three large screens, including a fully digital driver display and two infotainment screens. The cabin also features a modern 4-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting, and options for 4-seat or 5-seat layouts. This is a significant upgrade from the original Sierra’s simple grey plastic interiors and folding bench seats.
The new Sierra will come with multiple engine choices, including electric, petrol, and diesel. The petrol version will use a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 170hp and 280Nm torque, while a diesel engine is also expected, along with automatic and manual gearboxes. Although Tata hasn’t officially confirmed a 4×4 version, the platform it’s built on is ready for serious off-roading.
The return of the Sierra represents the significant progress made by India’s auto industry, from simple, utilitarian SUVs to smart, premium, and eco-friendly mobility solutions. The new Tata Sierra is expected to be a perfect mix of nostalgia and next-gen technology, making it an exciting option for new car buyers and auto enthusiasts. With its cutting-edge features, powerful engine options, and sleek design, the new Sierra is set to make a statement in the Indian automotive market.
