The competition between Hero MotoCorp and Honda in the Indian two-wheeler market has heated up, with Hero MotoCorp emerging as the leader in June 2025. The company sold 5.53 lakh two-wheelers, registering a 10% year-on-year growth compared to June 2024, when it sold 5.03 lakh units. In contrast, Honda sold 4.29 lakh two-wheelers, with Hero managing to sell 29% more than its Japanese counterpart.
Breaking down the sales numbers, Hero MotoCorp’s motorcycle sales accounted for 5.12 lakh units, while scooters registered sales of 41,305 units. Although Honda has not revealed a segment-wise breakup, the Activa is its best-selling model, while the Splendor is Hero’s top-seller. In terms of exports, however, Honda takes the lead, exporting 40,335 units in June 2025, compared to Hero’s 28,827 units.
Both companies have launched new products in recent times, with Hero introducing updated models such as the Xoom 125, Xoom 160, XPulse 210, and Xtreme 250R. These launches have helped Hero maintain a balance between its commuter and premium segments. Honda, on the other hand, has focused on updating its premium offerings, including the Transalp 750, four-cylinder 650 twins, Hornet 750, and CB1000 Hornet SP. While these premium models account for a small fraction of Honda’s sales, the company’s commuter motorcycles and Activa continue to drive sales.
The “Hero vs Honda” rivalry may seem unusual to some, given the companies’ past partnership as Hero Honda. However, since their split, they have become fierce competitors in the Indian market, with Hero consistently leading in sales. As the two-wheeler market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these companies respond to changing consumer preferences and technological advancements, particularly with the rise of electric vehicles. For now, Hero MotoCorp’s strong sales performance in June 2025 has cemented its position as a market leader, but Honda remains a close competitor, and the battle between these two giants is far from over.
