Alex Palou, the current championship leader, has secured his fifth pole position of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This adds another point to his tally, extending his lead to 100 points over second place with a total of 537 points. Palou is aiming for his third win at Laguna Seca, having previously triumphed in 2022 and 2024, and is also seeking his third consecutive drivers’ championship and fourth in five years.
Joining Palou at the front of the grid will be Colton Herta, who will start in third position. Herta is a two-time winner at Laguna Seca, having taken victories in 2019 and 2021, and is looking to contribute to Honda’s streak of five straight wins at the facility since the NTT INDYCAR SERIES returned in 2019. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has two cars starting in the top 10, with Graham Rahal in eighth and Louis Foster in ninth, while Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong will start in tenth.
Honda is dominating the IndyCar series, with 11 wins in 13 races, and is looking to secure its 12th victory of the year. Palou has taken seven wins, including the Indianapolis 500, while Kyle Kirkwood has taken three wins, including the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Scott Dixon has also found victory lane at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. As a result, Honda is leading rival Chevrolet in the manufacturers’ standings by 205 points.
In the qualifying results, Palou took the top spot, followed by Herta in third. Other notable starts include Graham Rahal in eighth, Louis Foster in ninth, and Marcus Armstrong in tenth. The Java House Grand Prix of Monterey will air live on Fox on Sunday at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET.
Palou commented on his pole position, saying, “Fifth pole of the year! Of course, we’d like to have even more, but it’s just been amazing. We started on pole last year, but it didn’t last very long. So, hopefully this year we can try and make that last a little bit longer.” Herta also expressed his satisfaction with his starting position, saying, “I’m happy with P3. The car was really good. Our Gainbridge Honda was fast and we have plenty to look forward to tomorrow. We can get the win from there.” With the strong performance of Honda’s drivers, the stage is set for an exciting race on Sunday.
