The Mahindra Thar 3-door is set to receive a facelift, with a prototype spotted testing for the first time. The updated model is expected to be launched during the upcoming festive season or early next year. The new Thar will feature cosmetic changes on the exterior, including new headlights, a revised grille design, updated bumpers, new tail lights, and new alloy wheels. Additionally, refreshed color options are also expected to be introduced.
The interior of the Thar is also expected to undergo significant changes, with a new dashboard layout, revised controls, and a larger and smoother touchscreen infotainment system with the latest UI. A digital instrument cluster and a new electric power-assisted steering wheel are also expected to be part of the updates. The new Thar is likely to receive features that are currently available on the Thar Roxx, such as push-button start/stop, a 360-degree camera, front armrest, sunroof, ambient lighting, and rear disc brakes.
In terms of engine options, the Thar is expected to continue with the same choices. The 2.0-liter mStallion turbo petrol engine produces 150 BHP and 300-320 Nm of torque, while the 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine produces 130 BHP and 300 Nm. Both engines come with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission options. The RWD variant gets the same petrol engine option, but with a smaller 1.5-liter D117 CRDe diesel engine producing 117 BHP and 300 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The updates to the Thar 3-door are likely to address the concerns of buyers who prefer the smaller version, but felt that it lacked features compared to the Thar Roxx. With the facelift, Mahindra aims to bridge the gap between the two models and provide a more comprehensive package to customers. The launch of the updated Thar is eagerly anticipated, and it is expected to be a significant improvement over the current model.
