PhonePe, a digital payments firm, has launched an innovative insurance plan in partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, specifically designed for travelers attending the Maha Kumbh Mela, a major spiritual event in Uttar Pradesh, India. The event, which takes place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, attracts millions of devotees from around the world. The insurance plan, available on the PhonePe platform until February 25, 2025, offers two options: Rs59 for travelers by train or bus and Rs99 for those flying domestically.
The coverage includes a range of benefits, such as hospitalization, doctor consultations, outpatient treatment, personal accident cover, and loss of checked-in baggage. Additionally, it provides trip cancellation cover, missed connecting flight cover, and repatriation of remains. This first-of-its-kind insurance plan aims to provide financial security to meet the needs of travelers attending the event.
PhonePe Insurance Broking Services CEO Vishal Gupta stated that this launch aligns with the company’s commitment to being the most trusted platform for all insurance needs. He expressed gratitude to ICICI Lombard for collaborating on this innovative product. ICICI Lombard General Insurance Retail and Government Chief Anand Singhi added that the partnership with PhonePe was chosen due to the company’s unparalleled reach and deep understanding of customer needs.
The insurance plan is designed to provide comprehensive protection against unforeseen risks, allowing travelers to focus on their devotional journey. This launch follows PhonePe’s introduction of a dengue and malaria insurance plan in December 2024, which provides up to Rs100,000 in coverage for medical expenses resulting from vector and air-borne diseases, starting at Rs59 per year.
