The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new initiative called ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ with the concept of ‘Har Ghar Insurance’, aiming to provide insurance coverage to every household in the country. The scheme was launched by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of top officials from LIC.
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is a unique initiative that aims to utilize the services of self-help groups (SHGs) and women from rural areas to sell life insurance policies. The scheme aims to reach out to the underserved and unserved population, particularly in rural areas, and provide them with affordable insurance coverage.
Under the scheme, women from SHGs will be trained and appointed as ‘Bima Sakhis’ or insurance friends, who will act as a bridge between LIC and the rural population. These Bima Sakhis will be responsible for selling life insurance policies, collecting premiums, and providing after-sales services to the policyholders.
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is part of the government’s larger goal of achieving ‘Har Ghar Insurance’ or insurance for every household. The scheme aims to increase the penetration of life insurance in the country, particularly in rural areas where access to insurance is limited.
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Sawant praised the initiative, saying that it will help in providing financial security to the people of Goa. He also appreciated the role of SHGs in the state, saying that they have been instrumental in empowering women and promoting economic development.
LIC officials said that the Bima Sakhi Yojana is a step towards achieving the goal of ‘Har Ghar Insurance’. They said that the scheme will not only provide insurance coverage to the rural population but also create employment opportunities for women from SHGs.
The Bima Sakhi Yojana is expected to benefit thousands of people in Goa and other parts of the country. The scheme is part of the government’s efforts to promote financial inclusion and provide social security to all citizens. With the launch of this scheme, LIC aims to increase its reach and penetration in the country, particularly in rural areas, and provide affordable insurance coverage to all.
