The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has empanelled five leading insurance companies to provide insurance coverage to its employees and fleet. These companies are New India Assurance Co Ltd, Iffco-Tokio General Insurance, Oriental Insurance Co Ltd, United India Insurance Co Ltd, and Go Digit General Insurance. Go Digit General Insurance was the primary service provider until December 2023, but New India Assurance Co Ltd and Oriental Insurance Co Ltd have since taken over claim settlements.
As of now, Rs 6.77 crore worth of claims have been filed, with Rs 1.45 crore already settled. The state government is actively monitoring the resolution of pending claims to ensure a faster settlement process. The government has also decided to launch an online portal called Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) to provide instant access to road accident data and accelerate compensation claims for accident victims.
The Transport department has emphasized the importance of having insurance coverage for vehicles, whether through new policies or renewals, to avoid legal and financial complications. With insurance, road accident victims’ families can receive faster compensation and the department can ensure a smoother claim settlement process. The e-DAR portal will digitize the claim settlement process, reducing paperwork and increasing transparency. Overall, the initiatives are expected to improve the efficiency and speed of claim settlement, leading to better outcomes for road accident victims and their families.
