CavinKare, a Chennai-based FMCG company, has introduced a student-led daily meal service called CK Unavagam. This initiative is part of the company’s philanthropy effort, managed by CK Educational Institutions, which operates six institutions in Cuddalore, catering to over 6,000 students. The service provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner at affordable prices, starting from ₹10.
The primary objective of CK Unavagam is not only to provide affordable meals but also to offer students a unique opportunity to manage and operate a full-fledged enterprise. This hands-on experience enables students to develop essential skills such as financial management, vendor coordination, inventory handling, quality control, customer engagement, team leadership, and marketing.
According to Ms. Amudhavalli Ranganathan, Executive Director of CK Educational Institutions and Director of New Initiatives & E Commerce at CavinKare, the initiative is focused on empowering students to become responsible citizens who understand the value of compassion, community spirit, and sustainability. She emphasized that this project is not a charitable endeavor but rather an effort to instill dignity and responsibility in the students.
CK Ranganathan, Chairman & Managing Director of CavinKare, expressed his confidence in the CK Unavagam model, stating that it is a meaningful innovation that combines education with social impact. He believes that this initiative will serve as an inspiration for similar models in the future.
By engaging students in the management and operation of CK Unavagam, CavinKare aims to create a positive impact on the community while providing students with a unique learning experience. The affordable meal service is expected to benefit not only the students but also the surrounding community, promoting a sense of social responsibility and community spirit. With its launch on August 20, 2025, CK Unavagam is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of students and the community at large.
