A joint team of Sector 24 police and the cyber cell in Noida, India, arrested four people for running a fake insurance renewal scam. The suspects, who had prior experience in the insurance sector and a private bank, posed as authorized representatives of insurance firms and insurance ombudsman officials to deceive policyholders. They would call policyholders for policy renewals and threaten them with financial recovery actions if they resisted. The gang used stolen data to obtain detailed information about insurance policies and targeted victims across several states. They defrauded around 10-12 individuals, with some losses of up to ₹10-12 lakh. The police seized 16 mobile phones, policy-related documents, and other incriminating materials from the suspects’ possession. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police urge citizens to verify the credentials of callers before transferring any money. The investigation is ongoing to identify other potential victims.
