A tragic accident occurred at the Amul Dairy premises in Anand, resulting in seven workers suffering burns. The incident happened on Friday evening when welding sparks ignited biogas that had accumulated due to a leak in the biogas plant. The workers, hired by an outsourcing agency, were carrying out welding work as part of the annual maintenance of the biogas balloon near the effluent treatment plant (ETP).
According to Dr. Mayur Parmar, prant officer and sub-divisional magistrate of Anand, the workers were rushed to Shree Krishna Hospital in Karamsad for treatment. Fortunately, none of the workers are critical, with one suffering major burns and six suffering minor burns. All of them are conscious, and their conditions are not life-threatening.
The managing director of Amul Dairy, Amit Vyas, stated that the biogas balloon was undergoing annual maintenance when the accident happened. He reported that the collected gas in the balloon had been extracted, and a spark led to the accident. Vyas assured that the work was being carried out under the supervision of a safety officer.
An investigation into the reasons for the accident will be conducted, but the priority currently is the treatment of the injured workers. The authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident. The accident highlights the importance of ensuring safety protocols are in place, especially when working with hazardous materials like biogas.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures in place at the Amul Dairy premises. While the company has stated that the work was being carried out under the supervision of a safety officer, the accident still occurred. The investigation will likely focus on determining whether proper safety protocols were followed and if any negligence or lapses contributed to the incident.
For now, the focus is on ensuring the injured workers receive the necessary treatment and care. The authorities and the company will work together to investigate the incident and take steps to prevent such accidents from happening in the future. The accident serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety and taking all necessary precautions when working with hazardous materials.
