The state of Haryana in India is preparing to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 with a massive event that aims to bring together over 20 lakh people to practice yoga. This year’s celebration has a special mission: to create a “Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana” or a state united by yoga and free from addiction. The event is being led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is aligning the state’s efforts with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global message of “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
The campaign is not just about physical exercises, but also about using yoga as a tool to promote mental peace, physical well-being, and a drug-free lifestyle. Patanjali, a renowned yoga institution led by Swami Ramdev, has partnered with the state government to support the initiative. Swami Ramdev is expected to attend the grand yoga event, which will be held simultaneously in all 22 districts and 121 blocks of Haryana.
The movement has gained significant support at the community level, with over 12 lakh people already signing up online to participate. The state government is also driving the ‘Harit Yoga’ campaign, which aims to inspire environmental responsibility by planting saplings. So far, over 70,000 saplings have been planted as part of this effort.
The celebration of International Yoga Day is a significant event in Haryana, with the state government working to make yoga a part of everyday life in villages. The government plans to set up 1,000 Vyayamshalas (rural gymnasiums), with 714 already completed, and has deployed 877 AYUSH yoga assistants to support the movement. The event is expected to be attended by thousands of people, including Chief Minister Saini and other dignitaries.
The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day is focused on yoga’s ability to nurture individual health, social harmony, and environmental sustainability. The message resonates strongly in Haryana, where the government is working to create a healthy and sustainable lifestyle for its citizens. With over 20 lakh people expected to participate, the event is expected to be a huge success, promoting the benefits of yoga and inspiring people to adopt a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
