The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul) has partnered with Spanish cooperative Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP) to launch Amul milk in Spain and the European Union. The agreement was signed at the Indian Embassy in Madrid, with representatives from both companies, the Indian Ambassador to Spain, and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture in attendance. This marks the first time Amul fresh milk will be available in Europe.

Amul is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million dairy farmers and a turnover of over $11 billion. The company handles over 12 billion liters of milk annually and operates 112 dairy plants across India. COVAP, founded in 1959, is a leading Spanish cooperative with over 2,000 active farmer-members and exports to over 30 countries.

The partnership aims to introduce Amul milk to the Spanish market, initially in major cities like Madrid and Barcelona, followed by other cities in Spain and Portugal. In the future, Amul plans to expand to countries like Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. The launch is seen as a significant milestone in Amul’s efforts to become a global dairy brand, in line with the vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, expressed his honor and pleasure in associating with COVAP, stating that the partnership will bring the goodness of Amul milk to Spanish consumers. COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the benefits of working with another cooperative to grow the Amul brand in Spain and promote high-quality milk products.

The partnership is also seen as a testament to the power of cooperation between cooperatives, with both companies committed to promoting each other’s interests and products. The launch of Amul milk in Europe is expected to not only benefit Indian dairy farmers but also contribute to the growth of the global dairy industry. As the world celebrates the International Year of Cooperatives in 2025, the partnership between Amul and COVAP serves as a shining example of cooperation and mutual benefit between two leading dairy cooperatives.
