A fire broke out at the Nestlé factory in Dalston, Cumbria, on April 14th at 7:10 am. The incident occurred on the fourth floor of the building, which is located off Carlisle Road. The factory, which is one of Nestlé’s largest sites, employs over 340 people and produces a variety of Nescafé coffee products.
Following the discovery of the fire, the factory was evacuated, and the crew of the Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene. After deploying four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets, the crew successfully extinguished the fire. As a result of the incident, two employees were taken to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the blaze.
In a statement, a Nestlé spokesperson expressed concern for the two injured employees and confirmed that all other staff members were accounted for. The police and fire service were involved in the response, and an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
The Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service described the response, stating that five fire engines and a joint incident command unit were involved in extinguishing the fire. Two casualties were transported to the hospital by ambulance crews.
The Nestlé factory in Dalston has a significant history, dating back to 1962, when it initially focused on the production of powdered and condensed milk. The site has since expanded to manufacture a range of cappuccino mixes under the Nescafé brand.
