Nestlé’s Tutbury site in the UK recently hosted a visit from John Whitby, Member of Parliament for Derbyshire Dales. The visit was Whitby’s first to the site since his election in 2024, and he was given a guided tour by Factory Manager David Guest. The tour provided an overview of the site’s production processes, including the manufacture of Nescafé and Nescafé Dolce Gusto products. Whitby also had the opportunity to meet with employees and learn about their roles and the site’s recent sustainability initiatives.
During the visit, Whitby was introduced to the site’s skilled and talented workforce, who showcased their expertise and dedication to producing high-quality coffee products. The site is one of Nestlé’s two specialist Nescafé sites in the UK and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Whitby was impressed by the site’s focus on sustainability and its strategy to deliver positive environmental outcomes. He also praised Nestlé’s investment in its employees, including onboarding training programs and in-house career development paths.
The visit was supported by two members of Nestlé UK’s National Leadership Team, Martin Krohn and Katya Simmons. Krohn provided an insight into the scale of manufacturing at Tutbury, including the site’s turnover of over 40 tonnes of green bean coffee per day. Simmons outlined the site’s importance to coffee production for the UK and export markets and discussed Nestlé’s sustainability initiatives, including the Nescafé Plan 2030 and support for regenerative farming practices.
Whitby was pleased to see the site’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact, including projects to reduce water, energy, and packaging materials usage. He also learned about the site’s efforts to contribute to Nestlé’s net zero target. Overall, the visit was a success, with Whitby expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to learn about Nestlé’s operations and sustainability initiatives. The visit highlighted the importance of the Tutbury site to Nestlé’s coffee production and its commitment to delivering high-quality products while minimizing its environmental impact.
