The Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team suffered a tough loss to the Colgate Raiders on Saturday, falling 2-1 in overtime. The Bobcats, ranked No. 9, are now 14-5-1 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. Despite controlling the game for much of the first period, Quinnipiac was unable to capitalize on its scoring chances. The team’s best opportunity came early, when senior center Emerson Jarvis made a quick pass to sophomore forward Taylor Brueske, but the puck was deflected by Colgate’s goaltender Farrah Walker.

The second period saw the Bobcats struggle on the power play, with Walker making several key saves to keep the game scoreless. Colgate’s freshman forward Emma Beauchamp had a great chance to score, but Quinnipiac’s goaltender Felicia Frank made a crucial save to keep the game tied. The Bobcats continued to pressure the Raiders, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The third period saw the Raiders take the lead, with senior defenseman Ava Svejkovsky finding the stick of Emma Pais, who scored the game’s first goal. However, the Bobcats quickly tied the game, with junior forward Kahlen Lamarche using her speed and agility to score her 18th goal of the season. The game remained tied at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation, with neither team able to find the winner.

The overtime period saw the Raiders take control, winning the opening draw and holding onto the puck for most of the five-minute period. With less than a minute to go, Walker made another key save, and Colgate’s senior forward Alyssa Biederman found fellow senior forward Sara Stewart, who beat Quinnipiac’s defenders and scored the winning goal. The Bobcats will look to bounce back on January 2, when they face the Boston University Terriers in the inaugural Friendship Series in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. and will be a crucial matchup for the Bobcats as they look to get back on track in conference play.
