Fog in Delhi reduced visibility to zero in some areas on Friday and Saturday, causing over 100 flights and some trains to be delayed. The Indira Gandhi International Airport issued advisories to passengers to check with airlines for flight status due to the fog, which made visibility zero in some areas. The dense fog has been a persistent problem in the region, especially during this time of year.
Air quality in Delhi has been deteriorating and reached “severe” levels on Friday, with an Air Quality Index reading of 409 at 6 am and settling at 397 at 4 pm. This has prompted the Centre’s panel to reimpose stage 3 anti-pollution curbs under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
Additionally, a blanket of fog covered parts of northern India, including Punjab and Haryana, making visibility zero in some areas. Accidents due to reduced visibility have also occurred, including multiple vehicle collisions on Delhi highways and a fatal collision between a bus and truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur.
It is predicted that there may be rain this weekend, along with dense fog in some areas in the morning, which may continue to disrupt flight and train operations.
