Captain Devi Sharan, a veteran pilot, has retired after 40 years of service with Air India. Sharan is best known for his heroic actions during the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC 814 in 1999. The plane was hijacked by militants and taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where it was held for 7 days. Sharan and his crew managed to bring the plane back to India safely, without compromising the safety of the passengers. Sharan’s bravery and expertise were instrumental in resolving the crisis. Air India has saluted his legacy, acknowledging his 40 years of dedicated service to the airline. Sharan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and is looking forward to making more memories in his post-flight career.
