SSE Energy Markets has signed two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Low Carbon, a renewable energy company, to purchase 52MW of solar capacity from two projects in North West Wales and South East England. The agreements, which commence in 2026, will generate approximately 76GWh of electricity annually. The projects, Feldon Vale and Long Meadow solar PV power plants, have secured government Contracts for Difference (CfD), providing long-term revenue certainty.

Under the agreements, SSE Energy Markets will provide route-to-market and optimization services, managing balancing risk and marketing Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates on behalf of Low Carbon. The deal expands SSE’s portfolio of CfD-backed assets to 2.8GW. SSE Energy Markets’ managing director, Gordon Bell, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that it demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of renewable energy in the UK.

The agreements follow SSE Energy Markets’ recent expansion in renewable energy services, including a route-to-market PPA with CWP Energy and a battery optimization deal with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. Low Carbon’s portfolio includes operational and development-stage renewable energy projects, with solar forming a significant component of the company’s asset base.

The partnership provides Low Carbon with predictable costs and transfers market risk to SSE’s experienced trading team. Low Carbon recently secured a £1.1 billion investment from CVC DIF, which will be used to expand its renewable energy pipeline by “multiple gigawatts”. The investment, combined with follow-on investment from existing shareholders and refinancing of existing project finance debt, will support Low Carbon’s growth plans.

The deal is a significant step forward for SSE Energy Markets, which is committed to supporting the growth of renewable energy in the UK. The company’s route-to-market services, including power trading, balancing services, and renewable energy certificate management, provide developers with comprehensive revenue optimization solutions. The partnership with Low Carbon demonstrates SSE Energy Markets’ ability to provide tailored solutions for solar developers, and the company is well-positioned to support the growth of the UK’s renewable energy sector.
