Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has made significant strides in its decarbonization efforts, consuming 1.57 billion units of renewable energy in FY25. This milestone marks a crucial step towards the company’s 2030 decarbonization roadmap, which aims to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable growth. The company has reported an 8.96% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity since FY21, driven by sustained progress in energy efficiency, clean power sourcing, and community-led sustainability initiatives.

To achieve its decarbonization goals, Vedanta Aluminium is strengthening its long-term strategy to secure approximately 1,500 MW of renewable power through power purchase agreements (PPAs). The company has also implemented various energy-conservation measures across its operations, including the deployment of advanced waste-heat recovery systems, improved boiler and turbine performance, and real-time digital monitoring of plant operations. These initiatives have resulted in 378 million units (MU) of energy savings in FY25.

Vedanta Aluminium’s patented potlining technology has been a key contributor to its efficiency gains, delivering 200 kWh per tonne of aluminium in operational energy savings. The company has also entered into a strategic partnership with PwC India to scale decarbonization, water positivity, and biodiversity initiatives across all major locations. Additionally, Vedanta Aluminium has institutionalized Communities of Practice focused on carbon, water, waste, biodiversity, and tailings to ensure consistent tracking and execution of ESG goals.

Under its 2030 sustainability targets, Vedanta Aluminium aims to have 30% of its product portfolio comprise low-carbon aluminium, driven by the expansion of its Restora and Restora Ultra product lines. The company has also rolled out comprehensive energy-efficiency training programs across all sites, aligned with global best practices and ISO 50001 Energy Management standards.

Key highlights of Vedanta Aluminium’s sustainability efforts include the consumption of 1.57 billion units of renewable energy, an 8.96% reduction in GHG intensity, and a plan to secure approximately 1,500 MW of renewable power via long-term PPAs. The company has also invested ₹1,411 million in community health, education, water, and livelihoods, and has expanded its low-carbon aluminium portfolio. As India observes National Energy Conservation Day, Vedanta Aluminium has reaffirmed its alignment with national energy-efficiency goals through large-scale renewable adoption, continuous efficiency upgrades, and transparent sustainability reporting.
