The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has taken a significant step towards enhancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure. On November 15, SECI exchanged Government Orders (GOs) with the Andhra Pradesh government for the development of a 1200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project. The exchange took place during the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam.
The 1200 MWh BESS project was designated to SECI by the Ministry of Power on January 23, and it was subsequently approved by the SECI Board Chairman, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, on October 22. The project will be developed under the CAPEX Mode, with SECI undertaking complete investment responsibilities. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been closely monitoring the progress of both projects.
The Energy Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Gottipati Ravi Kumar, formally handed over the Government Orders to SECI in the presence of the Chief Secretary, K Vijayanand, and the Vice Chairman, NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu. SECI was represented by Sivakumar Venkat Vepakomma and Rohit Choubey. The exchange of GOs marks a significant milestone in strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy infrastructure.
The development of the 1200 MWh BESS and the 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project will signal a major leap in clean energy storage capacity, strengthening the state’s renewable ecosystem and powering India’s transition to a more resilient, storage-enabled green grid. SECI has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with states and central ministries to accelerate India’s transition towards a greener, more resilient energy future.
The project is expected to contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy goals, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has expressed its support for the initiative. With the exchange of GOs, the project is now set to move forward, and SECI will undertake the complete investment responsibilities for the development of the BESS and Hybrid Solar Project. The project is a significant step towards enhancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure and promoting a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
