Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Paradip, a town in Jagatsinghpur district, into the gateway to eastern India. The plan includes several major infrastructure and industrial projects, such as a greenfield airport, a cruise terminal, and a green hydrogen hub. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Kalinga Bali Jatra, a festival celebrating Odisha’s rich maritime heritage.
The festival commemorates the bravery and enterprise of ancient Odia sailors and traders who established trade and cultural relations with many countries. The Chief Minister emphasized that the event serves as a reminder of the state’s rich history and its potential for growth and development. To develop Paradip as a tourism destination, a cruise terminal will be built on the Mangala River, with the state government allocating ₹500 crore for the project.
In addition to the cruise terminal, plans for a greenfield airport in Paradip are also underway. The airport will further enhance the town’s connectivity and facilitate the growth of trade and commerce. The Paradip Port has already become one of India’s most important trade and industrial hubs, and the government is committed to ensuring its overall development.
Other upcoming initiatives include the creation of a mega urban cluster connecting major cities like Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Jatni, Cuttack, Paradip, and Puri, as well as the development of industrial corridors. The government also plans to develop Paradip beach for tourism, which will provide a boost to the local economy.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampada Chandra, Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, and Paradip Port Authority Chairman P. L. Harnadha. The Chief Minister’s vision for Paradip is expected to bring significant economic growth and development to the region, and the implementation of these projects will be closely watched in the coming years.
The development of Paradip into a major hub is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy and will provide new opportunities for trade, commerce, and tourism. With the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and industry, Paradip is poised to become a major player in eastern India’s economic landscape.
