Honda is set to unveil its first electric motorcycle on September 2, marking a significant milestone in the company’s plans to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup globally. The upcoming bike is based on the EV Fun Concept, which was showcased at EICMA 2024. The EV Fun Concept is a futuristic design that is claimed to be compatible with CCS2 chargers and will go on sale overseas in 2025.

Although the teaser trailer for the new bike shows it covered in heavy camouflage, some styling details are visible. These include an LED headlamp, single-sided swingarm, clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors, and a rectangular TFT display. The wheels appear to be similar to those on the EV Fun Concept, but with some differences in the fork tubes and triple tree mounting. Other notable features include heavier left-hand switchgear and a Pirelli Diablo Rosso III rear tire.

In terms of performance, the new electric bike is expected to offer a power figure comparable to a mid-sized internal combustion engine motorcycle. The range is likely to be over 100km, using a fixed battery, similar to the EV Fun Concept. The bike will also feature fast CCS2 charging capabilities.

Honda plans to launch the production-spec electric bike in the global market in 2025. However, it is unclear when or if the bike will be introduced in India. Currently, Honda only retails two electric two-wheelers in India – the Activa e: and the QC1. The company’s decision to launch the electric motorcycle in India will depend on various factors, including market demand and competition.

The unveiling of Honda’s first electric motorcycle is a significant step towards the company’s goal of expanding its EV lineup globally. With the growing demand for electric vehicles, Honda is poised to cater to the needs of environmentally conscious consumers who are looking for sustainable and efficient transportation options. The new electric bike is expected to be a game-changer in the two-wheeler market, offering a unique blend of style, performance, and eco-friendliness.
