A recent investment promotion event in Tianjin, China, brought together entrepreneurs from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries, observer states, and dialogue partners, including Turkey, Sri Lanka, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. The event was held ahead of the upcoming SCO summit, which will take place in Tianjin this autumn. Turkish businessman Mehmet Sahin, vice president of Hattat Holding A.S., attended the event and expressed his satisfaction with the opportunities it presented to meet with potential Chinese and Russian investors and cooperation partners. His company is exploring investment opportunities in coal-cleaning projects, engine assembly, and wind power generation.
The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, established in 2008, has become Egypt’s most competitive industrial hub and a benchmark of China-Egypt cooperation. During the event, the zone announced significant progress, including a partnership with SCZone Utilities S.A.E. and the construction of a 200-megawatt substation. This critical infrastructure project aims to resolve power supply constraints, lower business costs, and accelerate industrial clustering in the zone. The cooperation zone has attracted a significant amount of investment, with general manager Ahmed Salaheldin Abdelfattah Elhomosani describing Tianjin TEDA as one of their best partners.
The event also highlighted the strengthening economic and trade cooperation between China and SCO member states, observer states, and dialogue partners. In 2024, trade between China and these countries reached a record high of 890 billion US dollars, accounting for approximately 14.4% of China’s total foreign trade that year. The event demonstrated the growing importance of the SCO in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation among its member states and partner countries. The upcoming SCO summit is expected to further promote future planning and cooperation among the participating countries.
The Turkey-China cooperation was one of the highlights of the event, with Turkish businesses expressing interest in investing in various sectors, including energy, automotive, and real estate development. The event has generated fresh momentum for economic and trade cooperation between China and SCO member states, observer states, and dialogue partners. The China-SCO Sustainable Development Industrial Investment Promotion Event marked a significant step forward in deepening cooperation between the participating countries and promoting a more sustainable and inclusive development model.
