The government of Andhra Pradesh is expanding its initiative to provide energy-efficient cooking induction stoves to all 55,607 Anganwadi centers in the state. The state government is partnering with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to provide modern, safe, and efficient induction cooktops to replace LPG cylinders in Anganwadi centers. This initiative has been recognized as a model for other states to follow.

The induction cooking method is 30% more efficient than traditional LPG methods, resulting in significant energy savings. It reduces the risk of fire hazards and burns, providing a safe cooking environment for Anganwadi staff and children. The switch to induction cooking also reduces carbon emissions, aiding India’s climate change mitigation efforts.

The state government aims to achieve annual savings of Rs 24 crore using energy-efficient induction stoves and avoid approximately 28,327 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The initiative has already secured the No. 1 position among 12 major Indian states in energy efficiency through the adoption of modern induction cooktops.

The Andhra Pradesh government is particularly impressed by the benefits of induction cooking, including:

* 30% more energy efficiency compared to traditional LPG methods
* Reduced fuel costs at Anganwadi centers
* Lower carbon emissions, aiding India’s climate change mitigation efforts
* Reduced risk of fire hazards and burns
* Safer and more comfortable cooking environments for Anganwadi staff and children

The state government has already partnered with EESL to replace LPG cylinders with 1,200W induction cooktops in 11,400 Anganwadi centers. With the expanded initiative, the state aims to cover all 55,607 centers, making Andhra Pradesh a leader in clean cooking practices in the country.
