Braskem Siam, a joint venture between SCG Chemicals and Brazil-based Braskem, plans to purchase ethanol from Mitr Phol Bio Fuel to produce bio-ethylene, a first in Asia. This environmentally friendly product will support global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The bio-ethylene will be used as feedstock to produce bio-based polyethylene (bio-PE), which has a negative carbon footprint and is recyclable. Bio-PE is used in various industries, such as food packaging, personal care, and toys.

Braskem Siam plans to produce 200,000 tonnes of bio-ethylene per year from ethanol derived from agricultural products, replacing fossil fuel-based ethylene. The plant is expected to be completed by 2027 and will have an estimated ethanol feedstock demand of over 450 million liters per year. The company is interested in buying sugar cane-derived ethanol from Mitr Phol Bio Fuel, a subsidiary of sugar miller Mitr Phol Group.

Mitr Phol Bio Fuel is ready to support Braskem Siam and stakeholders in producing and delivering quality ethanol to drive a bioplastics production plant in Thailand. The factory is expected to help address the growing demand for environmentally friendly polymers in the Asian and European markets, while aligning with Thailand’s development goals for sustainable ethanol production. With this initiative, Braskem Siam becomes the first factory in Asia to supply bio-based plastics to support global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
