IndiGrid, a leading infrastructure investment trust in India’s power sector, has commissioned its maiden commercial battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Delhi. The project, known as Kilokari BESS Pvt Ltd (KBPL), is a 20 MW/40 MWh standalone BESS, making it the first regulated utility-scale BESS project in India. The project was awarded to IndiGrid by BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) in October 2023.

The 20 MW/40 MWh BESS means that the system can provide power backup for two hours, giving a total output of 40 MW. The project marks a significant milestone for IndiGrid, demonstrating its ability to execute a complex infrastructure project on time and within budget while maintaining the highest level of safety during construction.

The BESS project is critical in maintaining grid stability and optimizing renewable integration, as it enables the intelligent storage and dispatch of power. The project’s commissioning is expected to play a key role in supporting the growing demand for renewable energy in India, while also reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.

IndiGrid is the first infrastructure investment trust in the Indian power sector, and the company’s focus on energy storage solutions is expected to revolutionize the way energy is generated, transmitted, and consumed in India. The successful commissioning of the Kilokari BESS project is a testament to IndiGrid’s expertise and commitment to delivering complex infrastructure projects in the country.
