The Swedish Government has assigned new tasks to the County Administrative Boards of Gävleborg and Västra Götaland to prepare permit applications for two offshore wind farms, Gävle Öst Havsvindpark (developed by Ørsted) and Vidar (developed by Vattenfall). The Geological Survey of Sweden will also prepare permit applications for the cables needed for the wind farms. This is the next step in the government’s plan to develop renewable energy in Sweden’s economic zone. The government has already granted permits for three offshore wind farms, with the new projects planned in the Bothnian Sea and northern Skagerrak. The Gävle Öst wind farm is expected to produce around 15 TWh of electricity per year, while the Vidar energy park will produce around 7.8 TWh per year and combine wind power with hydrogen production.
