Norwegian developer Deep Wind Offshore has applied to lease an area for two offshore wind farms in Chile. The company has been exploring the Latin American market for over two years. Chile aims to generate 60% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, with an expected 65% increase in electricity demand by 2040. The projects will be managed and operated locally, creating jobs and engaging local suppliers. Chilean government officials, Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism Nicolas Grau and Minister of Energy Diego Pardow, welcome the investment, citing the importance of decarbonizing the electricity sector to meet climate and environmental goals. This initiative represents a significant opportunity for the region’s industrial capacities and will provide clean energy at a lower cost for the country.
