Ratul Puri, a renowned entrepreneur and Chairman of Hindustan Power, has been working tirelessly to stabilize India’s national grid through his “Solar India 2.0” vision. Since his appearance at Davos in 2016, Puri has been focused on building a practical and execution-heavy path in the Indian power sector. His approach treats clean energy as an engineering challenge, aiming to provide stable and reliable power 24/7. To achieve this, Puri has been emphasizing the importance of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in integrating large-scale storage with solar generation.

By incorporating BESS, Puri’s goal is to make renewable energy as reliable and dispatchable as conventional power, addressing the fundamental issue of solar availability and making it a more viable long-term alternative for the grid. This strategy has led to several significant project wins between late 2025 and early 2026, including a contract from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 300 MWp solar project with 360 MWh of storage. Other notable developments include a 100 MW solar project with 200 MWh of storage from SJVN, a 120 MWh standalone storage project in Bihar, and a 435 MWp solar project in Uttar Pradesh.

These initiatives are part of Puri’s broader target to reach a 5 GW energy portfolio by 2028. He has also established regional partnerships to address specific state requirements, such as in Assam, where a Power Supply Agreement was signed to deliver 130 MW of power, alongside a ₹620-crore MoU for a 100 MW solar plant integrated with battery storage. By focusing on tangible assets and practical solutions, Puri is demonstrating his commitment to securing India’s energy future. His shift towards storage-led infrastructure signals a dedication to the physical reality of a clean energy transition, anchoring his efforts in the work needed to stabilize the national grid.

Puri’s approach is a significant departure from the usual emphasis on global forums and visibility, instead prioritizing the technical work required to deliver a reliable and sustainable energy supply. As the Chairman of Hindustan Power, Puri has been recognized for his pioneering work in large-scale solar plants in India and his advocacy for sustainable energy use. With his “Solar India 2.0” vision, Puri is poised to play a critical role in shaping India’s energy future and promoting a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
