A one-week industry-linked skill-based workshop on environment and sustainable development was launched at Kurukshetra University, aiming to strengthen academia-industry collaboration in the field of sustainability. The workshop, organized by the Institute of Environmental Studies, will conclude on February 6. The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, emphasized the need for universities to move beyond theoretical instruction and contribute to real-world solutions for environmental challenges.

Sachdeva highlighted the importance of higher education institutions in addressing climate change, environmental degradation, and resource depletion through applied research and industry partnerships. He emphasized the need for effective collaboration between academia and industry to translate research outcomes into scalable and implementable sustainability solutions. The Vice-Chancellor also proposed the development of a ‘zero discharge’ model campus at Kurukshetra University, integrating research, innovation, and sustainable practices to create measurable environmental impact.

The workshop is designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and action through hands-on, skill-oriented training, aligned with Haryana’s Revised State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC Phase II, 2021-2030). The program aims to nurture graduates who are not only professionally skilled but also socially and ethically responsible, in line with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A total of 75 postgraduate students and research scholars from Kurukshetra University are participating in the program, which includes experiential learning modules and interactive sessions with industry experts. The workshop coordinator, Dr Bhawna Dahiya, briefed the participants about the program structure and the various activities planned during the week.

The Institute of Environmental Studies, Kurukshetra University, has taken the initiative to organize this workshop, which is expected to provide a platform for students and researchers to gain practical skills and knowledge in the field of sustainability. The workshop is a step towards achieving the university’s vision of becoming a leading institution in sustainability-driven education and research, and contributing to the national and global efforts to address environmental challenges.
