Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has achieved a significant milestone in sustainability by inaugurating a 210 KWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant (RTSSP) at its Bengaluru Complex. The new facility was inaugurated by Mr. Rajnish Sharma, Director (BG Complex), and Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, General Manager (CS) and Chief Officer. With this commissioning, BEL has successfully utilized 100% of its feasible rooftop spaces for solar energy generation at its Bengaluru campus.

This accomplishment has earned BEL the distinction of being the first Defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) in India to achieve RE100 status, meaning it meets 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy sources. BEL’s journey towards renewable energy began in 2012 with a modest 30 KWp solar installation, which has since expanded to a massive 2.6 MWp rooftop solar capacity.

The company’s commitment to clean energy, climate responsibility, and sustainable development is evident in its steady expansion of green footprint over the years. This achievement is a key pillar of BEL’s broader vision to become a Net Zero company, reinforcing its leadership in environmental stewardship within India’s defence and manufacturing sectors.

By achieving RE100 status, BEL has demonstrated its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a sustainable future. The company’s efforts to harness renewable energy sources will not only reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources but also help mitigate climate change. As a leading Defence PSU in India, BEL’s commitment to sustainability sets a precedent for other organizations to follow, promoting a culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship.

The inauguration of the 210 KWp Rooftop Solar Power Plant marks a significant step towards BEL’s goal of becoming a Net Zero company. The company’s focus on sustainability and renewable energy is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, while also enhancing its reputation as a responsible and environmentally conscious organization. Overall, BEL’s achievement is a testament to its commitment to sustainability and its vision for a greener future.
