Today, India celebrates National Energy Conservation Day, an annual event aimed at promoting awareness about the importance of energy conservation and highlighting the country’s achievements in energy efficiency. On this occasion, President Droupadi Murmu honored the winners of the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025 and the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2025 in New Delhi.

In her address, President Murmu emphasized that energy conservation is no longer a choice, but a necessity in today’s world. She stressed that every unit of energy saved is a reflection of our responsibility towards the environment and our care for future generations. The President noted that India has made significant strides in energy conservation and clean energy transition, achieving its clean energy commitments ahead of schedule. This milestone demonstrates the country’s commitment to enhanced energy efficiency and decarbonization.

Union Minister for Power, Manohar Lal, congratulated the winners of the NECA 2025, stating that the event showcases how development and environmental conservation can go hand in hand. He also congratulated the winners of the National Painting Competition, which saw participation from over 83 lakh students from 1 lakh 10 thousand schools across the country.

The Best Performing State awards in energy efficiency were given to various states, with Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, and Chandigarh winning in their respective categories. The National Painting Competition winners included Anuj Prince from Ambala, who won the first prize in Group A, and Soumya Jeet Malik from Odisha, who won in Group B.

The National Energy Conservation Day celebrations serve as a reminder of the importance of conserving energy and promoting sustainable development. The event highlights the country’s progress in energy efficiency and clean energy transition, while encouraging individuals, especially children, to take an active role in promoting energy conservation. By recognizing the achievements of states and individuals in energy conservation, the government aims to inspire others to follow suit and contribute to a more sustainable future.
