Cairn Oil & Gas, a leading private oil and gas exploration and production company in India, has released its Sustainability Report for the financial year 2025. The report, themed “Inspiring Actions, Fostering Impact,” highlights the company’s commitment to turning inspiration into meaningful change. Cairn has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint, with a reduction of 89,770 tonnes of CO2e emission from its operations, equivalent to planting 4.5 million trees per year.

Over the past five years, Cairn has reduced over 300,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 15 million trees. The company has also achieved a 57% reduction in flaring volumes of potential gas over the last five years. Additionally, Cairn has sustained water positivity impact for the last four years, with an NPWI Index of 1.18 in FY25, and has diverted over 98% of waste for gainful utilization.

Cairn has pledged to reduce its absolute methane emissions by 30% over the next five years, as part of its commitment to the United Nations Environment Programme’s OGMP 2.0. The company has also received ‘Gold Standard Pathway’ status for establishing its methane reduction target and submitting a credible implementation plan.

Beyond its environmental achievements, Cairn has also made significant social impact, touching 195 million lives across its operational areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam, over the last five years. The company has implemented various initiatives in healthcare, children’s education and well-being, agriculture and animal husbandry, and skill development.

Cairn is also committed to building an inclusive and diverse workplace, with a goal of achieving 30% gender diversity by 2030. As of FY25, the company has achieved 22% gender diversity across the organization and 22% women in decision-making roles. The company has also witnessed a 90% reduction in lost time injury frequency rate over the last five years, placing it amongst the top 10 companies in safety performance.

The report highlights Cairn’s commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship, and demonstrates the company’s progress towards achieving its vision of contributing 50% of domestic crude production while safeguarding the interest of the planet and people.
