The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced two significant diplomatic engagements between India and European countries. On Thursday, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George met with Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, to review cooperation under the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership. The meeting focused on collaboration in areas such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen. This partnership aims to promote the use of clean energy and reduce carbon emissions, aligning with India’s goal of becoming a net-zero economy by 2070.
In a separate development, the 8th India-Denmark Foreign Office Consultations were held in New Delhi on Monday. The consultations were co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and State Secretary for Foreign Policy Lotte Machon. The meeting reviewed the ongoing bilateral cooperation under the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and the Joint Action Plan for 2021-26. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration across various sectors, including political engagement, trade and investment, renewable energy, sustainability, and research and development.
Denmark, a trusted partner within the European Union, reiterated its support for the early conclusion of an India-EU Free Trade Agreement during its ongoing EU Council Presidency. The two nations also agreed to enhance cooperation in defense and security, new and emerging technologies, and Arctic affairs, while reiterating their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms. The discussions emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation under the India-EU Strategic Partnership framework, with Denmark backing a timely, ambitious, and mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
The meetings highlight India’s growing engagement with European countries on issues related to clean energy, trade, and security. The India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership and the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership demonstrate India’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable development. The discussions also underscore the importance of multilateral cooperation, including at the United Nations and in Arctic matters. Overall, these diplomatic engagements reflect India’s efforts to strengthen its relationships with European countries and promote cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
