The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has taken a significant step towards promoting renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh. The company has exchanged government orders (GOs) with the state government for the development of a 1,200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Nandyal and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project. This exchange marks a major milestone in strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy infrastructure and accelerating India’s transition towards a greener energy future.

The BESS project, which has been designated to SECI by the Ministry of Power, will be developed under the CAPEX Mode, with SECI undertaking complete investment responsibilities. The project aims to strengthen the state’s renewable ecosystem and power India’s transition to a more resilient, storage-enabled green grid. The Hybrid Solar Project will also be developed under the same mode, with SECI responsible for the complete investment.

The exchange of GOs took place during the Energy Session of the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025, which was organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been closely monitoring the progress and development of both projects.

In a related development, SECI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the installation of solar power plants along highways. The MoU aims to develop renewable energy projects on highway infrastructure, harnessing the potential of solar energy to power highway infrastructure and reduce carbon footprint. The first phase of the project will involve the installation of solar plants along the elevated portion of the Delhi Saharanpur Dehradun highway.

Overall, these developments demonstrate SECI’s commitment to partnering with states and central ministries to accelerate India’s transition towards a greener energy future. The company’s efforts are expected to play a significant role in promoting renewable energy and reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels. With the exchange of GOs and the signing of the MoU, SECI has taken a major step towards achieving its goal of promoting sustainable energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions.
