A high-level German delegation, led by Parliamentary State Secretary Johann Saathoff, will visit India from October 29 to November 1 to strengthen cooperation in the renewable energy sector. The visit aims to deepen ties between Indian and German companies, boost investment opportunities, and support India’s ambitious renewable energy targets. India has set a goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, and Germany is committed to supporting this effort.

The delegation will attend the country’s largest international wind energy trade fair in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, where Saathoff will deliver the inaugural address. They will also hold discussions with Indian companies, associations, and government officials in the wind energy, solar, and bioenergy sectors. Key topics on the agenda include energy storage, skilled workforce development, and labor migration.

Germany and India have a long-standing partnership in the renewable energy sector, with Germany providing engineering expertise and India offering manufacturing strength. This collaboration is essential for building diversified and resilient global supply chains in renewable energy. The two countries have jointly launched the “India-Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide” to promote cooperation in this area.

Germany is India’s 9th largest foreign direct investor, with cumulative FDI reaching $15.11 billion between 2000 and 2025. In 2024-25, German investments in India stood at $469 million. Over 2,000 German companies are currently active in India, primarily investing in sectors such as transportation, electrical equipment, and automobiles.

The visit is expected to further strengthen the Indo-German partnership in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on promoting mutual investment opportunities and cooperation. The collaboration between the two countries is crucial for reducing unilateral dependencies and enhancing the competitiveness of both economies. With India’s renewable energy sector poised for significant growth, the visit is timely and is expected to yield positive outcomes for both countries.
