Apple has announced a significant expansion of its renewable energy projects across Europe, with new solar and wind farms being developed in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania. These projects will add 650 megawatts of renewable energy capacity to the grid, generating over 1 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity by 2030. This move is part of Apple’s goal to be carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030, with the company aiming to match 100% of global customer electricity use with clean electricity.
The new projects in Europe will help Apple achieve its ambitious goal, while also contributing to healthy communities, thriving economies, and secure energy sources across the continent. Product use, which accounts for around 29% of Apple’s overall greenhouse gas emissions, is a key area of focus for the company. To address these emissions, Apple supports renewable energy projects that maximize impact on grids around the world, aiming to avoid the carbon that’s emitted by charging and powering Apple devices.
Across Europe, Apple is facilitating the construction of large-scale projects that will add around 3,000 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy to the grid each year by 2030. The company has signed agreements with various developers, including HELLENiQ ENERGY in Greece, Econergy in Poland, and Nala Renewables in Romania. Apple has also enabled the development of a 131MW solar farm in Spain, which became operational earlier this year.
As Apple progresses towards its 2030 goal, the company is working to enable renewable energy projects around the world. In addition to investments for product use, Apple and its suppliers support over 19 gigawatts of renewable energy used to power the company’s global corporate operations and manufacturing supply chain. The company’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable development. By investing in renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint, Apple is helping to create a healthier and more sustainable future for its customers and the planet.
